The effects of goji berries and other goji products on diabetes are unclear at this point. There have been some studies done on laboratory animals that suggest that the substance may lower blood sugar levels, but no studies have been done on humans.
There are some testimonials and anecdotal evidence that suggests that there may be something to goji in this area. A doctor reported that one of his patients had to take less of her medication to compensate for the difference in level of sugar in her blood after taking goji juice for some time. You can read the article regarding diabetes here.
If you suffer form diabetes, and you do decide to try goji products, you need to make sure that you consult your doctor. This is especially true when you think that it is working and your blood sugar level starts to drop. Remember, your life depends on you medication!
Amino acids play central roles both as building blocks of proteins and as intermediates in metabolism. The 20 amino acids that are found within proteins convey a vast array of chemical versatility. Tertiary Structure of a proteinThe precise amino acid content, and the sequence of those amino acids, of a specific protein, is determined by the sequence of the bases in the gene that encodes that protein. The chemical properties of the amino acids of proteins determine the biological activity of the protein. Proteins not only catalyze all (or most) of the reactions in living cells, they control virtually all cellular process. In addition, proteins contain within their amino acid sequences the necessary information to determine how that protein will fold into a three dimensional structure, and the stability of the resulting structure. The field of protein folding and stability has been a critically important area of research for years, and remains today one of the great unsolved mysteries. It is, however, being actively investigated, and progress is being made every day.
As we learn about amino acids, it is important to keep in mind that one of the more important reasons to understand amino acid structure and properties is to be able to understand protein structure and properties. We will see that the vastly complex characteristics of even a small, relatively simple, protein are a composite of the properties of the amino acids which comprise the protein.
Essential amino acids
Humans can produce 10 of the 20 amino acids. The others must be supplied in the food. Failure to obtain enough of even 1 of the 10 essential amino acids, those that we cannot make, results in degradation of the body's proteins—muscle and so forth—to obtain the one amino acid that is needed. Unlike fat and starch, the human body does not store excess amino acids for later use—the amino acids must be in the food every day.

The Goji Well
During the Tang Dynasty (around 800 AD), a well had been dug beside a wall near a famous Buddhist temple that was covered with goji vines. Over the years, countless berries had fallen into the well. Those who prayed there has the ruddy complexion of good health, and even at the age of eighty they had no white hair and had lost no teeth, simply because they drank the water from the well. From the legend, a poem was crafted.
"a cool well beside the monk’s house
a clear spring feeds the well and the water has great powers
emerald green leaves grow on the wall
the deep red berries shine like copper
the flourishing branch like a walking stick
the old root in a dog’s shape signals good fortune
the goji nourishes body and spirit
drink of the well and enjoy long life"
-Tang Dynasty poet Liu Yuxi (722 – 842AD)
I am going to address how I feel about the "placebo" effect and Goji. Anytime you deal with people’s health you will have a placebo effect on some. I have a few key points to share with you. 1) Animals do not have a "placebo" effect. There are a lot of testimonials regarding great results with pets. 2) Lab work does not understand the "placebo" effect. I have seen in 7 to 8 weeks on Goji remarkable turns in regards to people and their blood work improving and a lot going to normal and this is on people who have had problems for years. 3) Diabetics monitoring themselves see better blood sugar levels with time. That doesn't work under the "placebo" effect. 4) even if the person is having a placebo effect for the things that they can (sleep, pain relief, energy…). What’s wrong with sleeping better, having more energy, less and or no pain, not feeling the side affects of Chemotherapy. I have seen for the most part people feeling better in general. They are doing better and without the use of drugs that all have side affects and don't always work on every patient. The results very and time of response to Goji varies due to the pollutants in ones body, your metabolism, the amount of Goji you take, the quality of the Goji, and your health issue. It may have taken years for your illness to take hold and we want instant results. I have seen fast results a lot of the time but usually it takes a couple of months for the toxins to flush and see wonderful benefits. Give it time.

What Do We Know About the Goji Berry Plant?
The goji berry plant is normally grown in Tibet, Mongolia and parts of China. This wonder plant should not be confused with that they call the wolfberry plant. These two plants look similar and have similar fruits, but while the goji berry plant bears sweet and juicy fruits, the wolfberry is slightly bitter and dry in taste. Few people however, know about this basic difference and in many places in the world, the wolfberry is sold as a goji berry.
The goji berry plant is a very hardy plant that will adapt to almost any type of soil and climate. This plant was found to fight extremes of cold and heat such as -15 degrees Fahrenheit in winter and above 100 degrees Fahrenheit in summer. Though the goji berry plant thrives in well-drained soil, it will grow okay in other types of soil as well. This plant loves the sun and it will always give you a better yield if planted in full sunlight. The only detrimental factor in the well-being of the goji berry plant is wet and soggy soil conditions.
With countless generations of people using goji every day to stay healthy, this powerful little berry has finally captured the attention of a new generation of research scientists, who have discovered a range of special protective molecules found only in goji. Dozens of studies are now confirming that these unique Lycium barbarum (goji's Latin name) polysaccharides (LBPs) are largely responsible for this potent fruit's remarkable benefits.
While maybe new to North Americans, the goji has a rich history in China dating back thousands of years. It was used to nourish the Yin and the blood, protect the heart, and strengthen the eyes, liver and kidneys. In China, goji and ginseng have always been highly touted as nutritional and therapeutic plants that promoted anti-aging and long life. The secret weapon used by gold medal winning Chinese Olympic athletes? You guessed it goji and ginseng.
Goji Berry (pronounced GO-jee) is the common name for the fruit of the Lycium barbarum plant. It grows on a thorny bush or spreading vine in the sheltered valleys and hills of the Himalayan mountain range in Tibet and in Mongolia (which are now parts of China). Lycium is a deciduous woody perennial plant which can grow to 1 to 3 meters in height, or grow vines up to 20 feet in length. There are over 40 varieties of the genus Lycium, which is part of the plant family Solanaceae, which also includes the tomato, eggplant, potato, chili pepper, tobacco, and deadly nightshade.
