Benefits of Goji Berries

The Goji berry is perhaps the most nutritionally rich fruit on the planet. It contains an impressive amount of naturally occurring minerals, amino acids, polysaccharides, phytonutrients and anti-oxidant vitamins. Goji berries contain 18 kinds of amino acids (six times higher than bee pollen) and contain all 8 essential amino acids. They also contain up to 21 trace minerals and are the richest source of carotenoids, including beta-carotene of all known foods or plants on earth! They contain vitamins B1, B2, B6, and vitamin E as well as 500 times the amount of anti-oxidant vitamin C, by weight, than oranges making them one of the richest vitamin C sources on earth. Finally, it has also been shown that Goji berries contain several key polysaccharides that have the ability to potentially play an impressive role in boosting the immune system response of individuals.

The phytochemical zeaxanthin dipalmitate showed a hepaprotective effect on liver cells treated with carbon tetrachloride induced hepatotoxicity (Kim HP et al, Zeaxanthin Dipalmitate from Goji Berries (Lycium Barbarum) has Hepatoprotective Activity, Res. Commun Mol Pathol Pharmacol. 1997)

Goji berry which also go by the scientific name of Lycium Barbarum is credited with increasing the life span and having several health improving properties. It is one of the richest natural nutrients available on earth. It is said that the Chinese have been using Goji berries, as a food and a medicine, for more than five thousand years.

I'm a grandma in my mid 40s and have the energy to keep up with my 2 year old grandson. People always mistake him as my own.

They also mistake my son for my brother. My husband and I both drink Goji juice. We've been taking 2-4 ounces 2-3 times a day.

It has helped in several ways. My blood pressure was a little high, at the borderline level. It is now down well within normal.

I've discovered that the flexibility in my neck and legs has improved. I sleep more soundly (and my dreams are much more colorful and strange, heh).

The best results I've seen however have been in my complexion. It has cleared up a lot of my adult acne and my skin is healthier. I LOOK YOUNGER!

My husband and I often meet couples younger than us … who believe we are younger than they are. I have actually been called "Miss" lately!!"

Cell damage is closely related to aging and cancer. Cell protection effects from Goji Berries have been shown in many human studies in China.

In one study conducted by Ningxia Medical University, thirty healthy people between 60 and 80 years of age were given 50g of Goji Berry to chew every day. After 10 days, blood samples were drawn to measure the level of SCE (Sister Chromatid Exchange, a popular marker for genetic toxicity relating to aging and the cancer process. SCE levels are lower in young people than that in aging people) and lymph cell proliferation. The result demonstrated that after taking Goji Berries, the SCE declined and lymph cell proliferation improved.

Dried goji berries can become a wonderful energy drink during the course of the day. Simply add the dried goji berries to water and allow the berries to release their wonderful properties. Drinking this elixir will not only provide the beneficial qualities of the berries to be released, but, in addition, will provide a healthy serving portion of fiber.

There are many uses for these Goji Berries; the most common being it's anti-oxidant properties. According to Oxidation Radical Absorbency Capacity testing, the recommended number of units of antioxidants that a person should consume should be minimum 5000-7000 (calculated in ORAC units). In comparison, the dried goji berries contain 22,000 units per gram which is just amazing.

Goji is the premier "brain tonic" in Asia, it contains betaine, which is converted in the body into choline, a substance that is believed to enhance memory and recall ability.
